RuneScape is among the grandfathers of the MMORPG genre. It is regarded in the top ten games on the market since its debut in January 2001. The game was originally a browser-based one, but has had many different versions due to its massive players with Cheap RS Gold.

Jagex President Phil Mansell was optimistic about the project expressing his enthusiasm over the Kickstarter idea "involving those from RuneScape groups," in addition, Steamforged CCO Mat Hart believed the "rich RuneScape universe is going to translate beautifully" into a tabletop setting.
